The Whispering Night Ch. 5

"How could you be completely calm and relaxed about this?" Erin fumed, "You get so angry at me for arriving not on time for your little meeting, and you have the pleasure of telling us this!" Her voice was filled with sarcasm, "This isn't a joke. This is our lives. This is my life. Ben's life. Mum's life." Her fists were clenched so tight, her veins bulged out of her hands slightly. "How do you feel? Hmm?" She took a step closer to him. "How? Do you feel proud? Happy? Free? Are you happy that you know have us out of your life?" Erin's mum sobbed quietly, Ben still hugging her tightly. "You're pathetic." Erin finished.

"That's a bit harsh." Her dad tried to regain his strength, "I tried-"

"Shut up!" Erin's anger exploded from her, "You didn't try! Have never tried anything in your life! You get us to do everything for you! And you are pathetic! I hate you! I wish I had never known you!" She breathed heavily anger pumping through her veins. "You don't deserve mum. You don't deserve anyone."  

"There is nothing more I can do." Dan sighed. His pale face was raw with regret. "Goodbye."

He disappeared through the freshly painted door and out of sight. There was an eerie silence in the house. The clock's gentle tick-tock was the only  sound. She had held in her tears that whole time, then the flood gates burst open. She gasped for breath in quick gulps, like it had only just hit her that her dad had been having an affair. She blindly stumbled up into her room, stuffed her face into her pillow. Her rage overpowered her mind. Her hand grabbed the first thing that came to focus and threw it against the wall. By now, she couldn't see a thing. Everything was a blur, all the times with her dad and how happy they were all floated around her. He'd been lying to them to whole time. Erin's breaths became more calm and shallow. Crying wasn't going to bring him back, or help her get over it. It was no use.
